“The day was like a nightmare. I screamed in agony with my hands tied and I lost everything. Are all these your intention?”
In A.D. 26, Jerusalem is under the oppression of Roman imperialism. Ben-Hur, a Jewish nobleman reunites with his old friend Messala who has survived countless wars and has become a Roman commanding officer. Messala asks Ben-Hur to help him sweep Jewish rebellions, but Ben-Hur rejects the offer.
The next day, Ben-Hur’s younger sister Tirzah accidentally drops a roof tile while watching the military parade of the Roman governor Gratus. Messala makes an issue of this and falsely accuses Ben-Hur’s family of treason. The unjustly charged Ben-Hur becomes a slave for a Roman military warship where he is shackled to an oar. Three years later, the warship is shipwrecked during a battle with pirates. He saves the life of the admiral Quintus, earns freedom and becomes a Roman nobleman. After overcoming countless ordeals, Ben-Hur vows revenge on Messala who took everything from him. Meanwhile, the news that a new King is coming from Nazareth stirs public sentiment in Jerusalem. After returning to his hometown, Ben-Hur competes against Messala in a chariot race.
