Darkness Poomba

“Dynamic performance expressing the sorrows and frustrations of Koreans"
Poomba is an adaptation of Gakseori Taryeong (song of singing beggars), which expresses the sorrows, frustrations and anger of peasants and beggars who struggled to survive and put up with mockery in the old hierarchical society. Darkness Poomba, a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Poomba, describes the social anxiety felt by people today. The traditional tunes of Poomba are rearranged for a band and pansori singers. The music performed along with the dynamic choreography presents powerful impressions. The Dionysiac movements of the dancers in the dark show how the sorrows and frustrations of the oppressed are sublimated into a positive energy.
